I have a PIII Gateway Performance 450 and want to upgrade the motherboard. Will that make it faster and if so, what do I need to purchase to do it? I would appreciate any info. Thanks.

A bit more system info would help. You might be able to add more memory, or simply use a faster CPU in the existing motherboard. You'll have to get a motherboard manual and see what CPU's your board supports.
If you do end up having to buy a new motherboard, you have to have one of the same form factor, AT or ATX, and also one that supports the CPU you want to use. And of course, a faster CPU would be necessary as well.
Let us know more about the system before you go off buying parts you don't really need.

My Motherboard is Tabor II and my processor is Pent III 450 Mhz. I am sure I sound really computer illiterate but what I would like is more Mhz so what should I do for that? I thought that may speed it up a little. I have added RAM to 128 and have an extra 128 stick but have not used it because I don't know if it is the same. It looks the same but has different numbers on it. So I guess a faster cpu is what I want. It has an Ultra ATA 66 Controller if that tells you anything. Thanks so much.

Sounds like you have enough RAM, if you want a faster computer you'll have to add a faster CPU. The motherboard depends on whether the one in the machine now will support a faster CPU. Only way I know of to find out is check the motherboard manual, unless someone happens to have the same board and has a manual, and could tell you what it would support.
Ultra ATA 66 is an interface standard concerning hard drive performance.
