View Full Version : Repaire Console
I boot PC with a WinXP pro CD rom and press R to enter repaire console.
It reads all partitions that are FAT32 but it can't rename or copy anything and this message is showned "Access is denied.".
Please help.
What are you trying to do?
I want to rename a folder and copy it. Why the access is denied? It is not even a system folder!

Access via Recovery Console is restricted mainly to the system area. Why cant you rename this folder when booted-up normally?

"I want to rename a folder and copy it"
1. How to make a free “Smart Boot Manager” floppy
http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=41498
This makes it easier to boot a chosen drive [particularly the one holding the EBCD].
2. How to make a free EBCD bootable CD

This has a number of useful utilities included including "Image" [for DOS, by Terabyte] & "File Manager".
File Manager or Volkov Commander on the EBCD will probably do this for you.
Sorry, there is no boot up. (Virus)
I had been solved my problem even before opening this thread. I only want to know why the access is restricted when I logon as administrator.
Thanks Sylvander, I will go for them.

At the bottom of the EBCD thread I show how "File Manager" or "Volkov Commander" can be used to copy the Windows installation file to a partition on the HDD and the installation run from there and the installation files left permanently in that location [so in the future Windows can find what it needs in a flash].
"Image" can be used to make and restore backup images of partitions, which is a GREAT way to solve Windows/program software problems.
Make backups when all's well and if you suspect a problem, restore a backup of your choice to "jump back" to a time in the past when all was well [and thereby eliminate the problem].

By default you are as an Administrator (and only Admins can log on) restricted (when in the Recovery Console) in the areas that you can access and also the removeabe media you can write to. Enter set at the command prompt to see how the variables are currently set. The Security policy must first be edited and you can then change the variables by entering
set AllowAllPaths = True
set AllowRemovableMedia = True
