okay, here is my delema. i have a case with an audio in (and microphone in... strange.... anyway) but the way they connect is there is a cord that runs on the inside of the case, from the front to the back. then it pops out of a hole in a pci slot cover and u hook it up to the onboard sound card. it is the strangest setup i have ever seen. anyway. i want to be able to plug earphones into the front of the computer and just turn off the speakers i have connected without having to reach around to the back, unplug the desktop speakers, plug in the thing that go's inside the case, and plug it into the front.
Is there anyway to put a second sound card in my computer and have the sound from everything come out of both at the same time?
it sounds strane, but i guess my case was just made strange...

just had another idea. there is a blue line-in connector on the onboard sound card that i can change on whim to surround speakers then back. when i change it to surround, it sounds almost the same but not quite. im still looking for a way to use two sound cards as i need a midi/game port anyway.

the "mic in" has preamplification on the sound card since a mic is passive, the "line in" is assumed you have already preamplified the signal (like from a cd player, anything with a headphone/line out). Anyways,

If you want to shell out $19.00usd, you can get this little guy from radioshack search for item # 26-204... it's a little switchbox.

otherwise, just get a 1/8" Y-spliiter (one in, two out, that will let you run headphones and speakers)

no, you can't run two sound cards... you don't need to.
