My grandmother bought a used computer from a school. She wants it to connect to the internet, but I don't know if it has a modem. How can I tell?

First, Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif forums.
You can, look at the back of the computer there should be space where there are 2 phone jacks side by side.
You can boot windows and lok in device manager. If you can tell us what version of Windows we can tell you how to get to device manager.

Just look behing the tower, the computer should have a RJ-11 port ( which can hold the normal telephone line), normally it should have 2 similar port, one should say line-in and the other would probably say Line-2 or EXT, on some modems u will also find the picture of a telephone. If you want to find it the other way round, just open the case and check for how many ext cards u have on ur PCI slot :)
