extensions
12-05-2005, 05:15 AM
On boot up I seem to be getting a notepad document appear on my desktop and no way to get rid of it. And my PC seems to running slow mainly when I'm on the net. Also my toolbar doesn't work sometimes. Anyway if someone could have a look at my log and give me some advise, I would really appreciate it.

Cheers

Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/):

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

Check "Perform action with all infections".

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.

Open Hijackthis and place a check next to:

Re-boot and do the following:

Post the results of the active scan
Post the Results of the Ewido scan
Post a fresh HJT log

What is located there?? I would not delete the Notepad program if that is what you mean...

classicsoftware,

ActiveScan is not removing malware anymore, so it may be necessary to manually delete those files...

It would be a good idea to run another ActiveScan and post the log to see what of those items is still there....

Have you checked to see what is in your start up folder? There may be an entry to start Notepad for some reason. Find it under Start, Programs, Start Up.

Your log looks okay...

Find and delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\webdlg32.inf
C:\WINDOWS\mstasks1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\seksdialer.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\webdlg32.inf
C:\App\Spyware & Virus app\backups\backup-20050121-104700-227.inf

If you are unable to find and delete them, use KillBox...

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/KillBox.exe

Then copy/paste this list into a Notepad file so that you can access it in Safe Mode... Boot to Safe Mode (tap F8 just before Windows starts loading and select Safe Mode)... Choose the "Delete on reboot" and "End Explorer Shell while Killing file" options... Copy/paste the entire list into the line for the file... It should be able to accept the whole list, but if it doesn't you will need to enter them one at a time... Do not click through to close it out and reboot until they have all been entered... Once they are all entered, click through to kill them...

Then do another ActiveScan log and post it here...

It might be a good idea to also run BlackLight....

http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/
