Dear Member,

I need information whether we can convert the files of anyother format into mp3 format.
If yes, Please let me know the 3rd party libraries required for it.

Regards,
Mayank Srivastava

More information than that will be needed before we can offer a decent answer, many file types can be converted to certain other types and sometimes without much trouble at all, in some cases just by renaming. I doubt if just renaming will work in this case, we need to know what specific file type you want to convert FROM and what type you want to convert TO, and for what purpose might be helpful.

He did mention output format and purpose, Pete. He's looking to go to mp3 for use as a ringtone. Most newer cell phones support this format for custom ringtones.

Any audio file format that you can play in WinAmp, can be converted to mp3 using the LAME mp3 output codec. It allows bitrates up to 320kbps. The Nullsoft diskwriter output plugin will limit your mp3s to 56kbps. Anything over 128kbps is alleged to be cd quality, but I always prefer to use something higher. 192kpbs is my favorite compromise between file size and audio quality.

I don't know how much storage space you have available on your phone, but a much lower encoding rate will probably be acceptable for your purpose. It will only be in mono after all. You can download the Nullsoft output codec directly from www.WinAmp.com

A very similar question was asked in another thread. Here is a link to it: http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=42185
