Can anyone tell me if a Hewlett Packard 3P laser printer is a good machine and worth buying second hand?
Thanks.

I can't say anything about that model, but I have a HP Desk Jet 400 and a Laser Jet Series II , both used, both have worked for 3 years or more with no trouble ay all, until the fuser in the laser jet finally gave up. I printed at least 2500 pages with it and still have toner in the used cartridge.

In another topic the HP's were given high marks by several people as well. I'd say if it's half the price of a new one or less, you could certainly do worse.

Tip Don't get a refilled or "remanufactured" toner cartridge. It has a transfer roller in it which is usually not replaced, and the toner itself is usually inferior, you'll get better results with a new one.

Thanks (for bothe replies), that is good advice. I have an HP inkjet which is good except the catridges are getting expensive. I have tried refilling these catridges with no success at all including the color ones, only buy new ones of these also.

Both replies? Hmmm....I knew I had replied to this p[ost twice, the first one still doesn't show up!!

OK, that said, refilling ink jet cartridges is a bust. It works sometimes, sometimes not. But since the cartridge has tiny holes that the ink flows through, when the ink runs out, some of these holes are clogged with dried ink, unless you've cleaned it often, which most people don't know how to do, or that they should do it...so you end up with faint lines in the printed characters. Refill the cartridge and these holes are still clogged and it gets worse. The ink is usually inferior quality compared to the original ink, and if you're not careful refilling can become very messy. In addition to all this, you have to create an extra hole inthe top of the cartridge that's not supposed to be there, and this allows the ink to dry up faster, and affects the pressure in the tank as well.

Those are the reasons you have unsatisfactory results with refilling. As you found out, it's more trouble than it'll ever be worth...
