I have been repairing and troubleshooting pcs for about 2.5 years, and have always used generic memory, matching clock speed and memory type with minimal problems. What is the deal with proprietary ram? I see it advertised often; is it just a marketing trick? Is there something beyond clock speed and memory type that determines compatability? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

No, not a marketing trick. some companies design computers that use only a specific type of memory, and have it made for them. Those computers can only use the proprietary memory, which is usually twice the cost of standard stuff.
