Has anyone heard of this company before? The name of the software sounds suspicious but as far as I can find out it seems genuine.
http://www.amustsoft.com/econdom/
(home page = http://www.amustsoft.com/company/ )

They state they are owned by Quest Software (bought by them during 2004) whom as far as I can see is a genuine and trustworthy company

They have just relelased a new FREEWARE product for protecting IE called Amust "Econdom" (hence my suspicions) but this seems to be a genuine product.

Can anyone verify or refute? the veracity of their claims (hey my brain must be in gear today to come up with a phrase like that :D )

I have downloaded the software (360kb) and run a couple of scans over it and it shows clean

Here is the quote from Bink.nu (a trustworthy site)

Saint-Petersburg, Russia, December 21, 2005 -- AMUST Software today announced the release of AMUST eCondom™ for Microsoft Internet Explorer, a free security utility designed to protect Internet users from malicious web sites which target user computers with spyware, keyloggers, rootkit and other malware.

eCondom reduces and eliminates the risks by allowing users to run Internet Explorer in SafeBrowse™ mode. It works similar to “Run As” command in Windows XP, and forces a user to use Internet Explorer under “User” account, even if he/she is logged in under Administrator account. Unlike “Run As” command eCondom normally does not reduce Windows XP usability and flexibility, and does not downgrade users’ Internet experience while making Internet browsing much more secure and safe.

eCondom is designed to protect a Windows XP user from the latest, not yet patched vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. eCondom is not a replacement for anti-spyware, anti-virus or personal firewall but rather another level of defense.

“Most Windows XP users employ all powerful Admin account for everyday use, and most of them are not even aware about this fact. Any malicious code running under Admin account also becomes all powerful, and can track user behavior, steal personal information or even take over a computer.” said Dr. Amust. “Using eCondom will dramatically reduce and eliminate the risks from malware because it limits Internet Explorer with “User” privileges which are just enough to browse the Internet

I'm just about to "try on" their protective barrier Ernie [install it].

I can see why they use the name.

If you "enter" this website and that without any form of barrier as protection [having not even been formally introduced] you are liable to acquire some kind of nasty infection.
Perhaps we should not act in such a promiscuous manner? :D

So this thing acts like a metaphorical E-condom.

Oops, it wouldn't install because I don't have WinXP. :(
