Well im buying ram this week maybe in new egg but i was curious about the timmings of my ram on the outside of the pc case it says that the ram its pc2100 and i thought the cas latency was 2.5, well i downloaded cpuz to know the timming but heres what I got:

DirectX version 9.0c

It says its pc2700 but on the outside it says pc2100 also i went to crucial.com and it said it was pc 2100 and cas latency 2.5 another thing in cpuz that confusses me is this table

SPD TIMING TABLES
FRequency 133mhz 166mhz

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!! :D

Well, everything looks fine, except for the RAM manufacturer. You say you went to Crucial's website? Why? That RAM shows up in CPU-Z as "Smart Modular". So unless you actually bought the RAM from Crucial, they won't know the specs on that RAM.

That RAM appears to be a stick of 512MB PC2700 from Smart Modular. It's running at PC2100 speed. Why? Because that's the max speed supported by the i845-series of chipsets. For the specific timings, it's possible that CPU-Z is reporting them incorrectly. Software is never perfect. But the manufacturer of the RAM module should be accurate.

As long as you buy a stick from a reputable manufacturer, you're fine. Like Crucial, Corsair, Kingston, Patriot, and a few others. The speed shouldn't matter too much, but if it saves you money to get PC2100 or PC2700, go for it. But even a 512MB stick of PC3200 should be well under $50 these days.

Sorry I didn't get back to this one sooner.
