Hi, I have a CD-rw and a DVD-rw set up on my PC now. If I wanted to copy a dvd to dvd, do I have to have a dvd player as the source? Or will the CD-rw do?

Thanks, sorry if its a stupid question!!!!

"do I have to have a dvd player as the source?"
Yes.

"will the CD-rw do?"
No.

An optical drive can generally only handle everything at its level of capability and below.
e.g.
1. DVD+/-RW
2. DVD+/-R
3. DVD-ROM
4. CD-RW
5. CD-R
6. CD-ROM

Hence, your CD-RW can handle 4, 5, 6, but not 1, 2, 3.

So what you could do is use your DVD-RW as a reader and "Create a Disk Image" saved to the HDD.
Then you can use that "Disk Image" to make as many copies as you like [including one only].
It's not the most efficient way to make a single copy, but it works [and it IS the most efficient way to make multiple copies].
Exactly how this is does may vary slightly from one make of burning application to another.

Thankyou very much mate, will try that. I could just buy an external case for the dvd player and plug it in via USB. I will have a little think.

Thanks for the Info

See post #3 here http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=42919&highlight=vipower for information on the external enclosure I use.

I do not understand why the DVD-RW is coming out of the computer. Why do you want to connect via USB? Sylvander's idea regarding the image on the HDD is the way to go when you only have one DVD drive.
