This is what happens if you recycle computer code, if it has a flaw, all your applications with the code has that flaw.
Symantec is holding the problem at bay by adding detections for programs that might try exploiting the flaw until they can fix the flaw itself per the sources I am reading, so it is not yet an exploit in the wild.
It is a serious matter if the bad guys can use protection applications as a vector to attack PCs.
