Merry x-mas all;

Clone PIII 933 MHz
Win xp pro
512 RAM
80 GB HDD

from Sandra:

Memory Module 1 : 256MB 8x(32Mx8) SDRAM PC133U-333-5412 (CL3 up to 133MHz) (CL2 up to 100MHz)
Memory Module 2 : Kingston 32MX64PC133CL3168 1A1F951B 256MB 8x(32Mx8) SDRAM PC133U-333-5412 (CL3 up to 133MHz) (CL2 up to 100MHz)

I added another 256 MB (WINTEC 3AMSD133) RAM to the third slot.

The PC didn't boot. So I removed it. The PC did not boot with the new RAM removed. I tried all combinations of the RAM sticks, in different slots, still no dice. The monitor LED stays amber and nothing comes up. The motherboard and HDD LEDs come on and I hear the HHD working.

I used anti-static wristband.

What did I do to the PC ???

Did I fry the motherboard (Intel D815EEA)???

I have no clue on how to troubleshoot this problem. PLEASE HELP.

TIA ... HomeSA

Based on your description, I doubt what you did fried the mobo. Are there any beeps at all when you turn it on? If so, that'll give us a clue as to what's going on.

A couple of possibilities: does it have bult-in onboard video, or a video card? If it's a card, I've accidentally jostled that from the slot when adding/removing RAM and had your problem. If you have a video card, reseat it. Next, that CPU is a bit old, is the power supply old also? When I've had PSUs go, the mobo light usually blinks, it doesn't stay a steady color...but who knows. If the video card is not the issue, the PSU could be. There you would have to swap in another one of the same format.

Update;

I unplugged the PC, took the CMOS battery out, and let her sit for 3 hours. Then I put in a new battery, plugged her back in and she fired right up. I don't know what happened, but I'm happy as a clam.

resetting the CMOS would have been my suggestion...ya beat me to it! :) It apparently didn't like the new RAM module you fed it, tasted it, but couldn't get the taste of it its mouth even though you removed it...

Clearing the CMOS must have been like a glass of wine clearing its palate. ;) Which begs the question, where sits that foul thing you tried to feed it??

LoL, that's a pretty funny way of putting it.
