Bus Connectors and Bus Tranceivers

Can someone tell me litle about the difference between Bus Connectors and Bus Tranceivers?
I know that it looks self-evident but i am asking because i thought the
connectors were simultaneously the tranceivers.

In what context? Do you mean a bus connector as in a physical PCI slot, for instance, or do you mean it in the sense of the bus controller part of a chip?
