Hi All
Merry Christmas.
I have a problem with my computer. It was running fine last night I set it to down load a movie overnight (as I've done for over a year).
I checked on it this morning & for some reason it restarted itself during the night unsure why never happened before.

System details:
P5AD2 PREMIUM MB
PENTIUM 3.4
2 X WESTERN DIGITAL RAPTOR 74 GIG HD IN RAID 0
2 X SEAGATE BARACUDA 200 GIG HD
DVD COMBI
DVD BURNER
SOUNDCARD
GRAPHIX CARD
ENERMAX 460W PSU

It took me all day to try & get it up & running I took the cover off for the first time in months & found the fan on my graphics card inop unsure for how long. After checking the jumpers I managed to get it going with just the 2 hard drives in raid 0 connected when I plug anything else in it will not boot into windows (running xp pro sp2). Even with it running at start up I have the error "ATAPI incompatable in primary slave drive" The strange part is when I conect either of the DVD players it then calls that the primary drive.

As I mentioned I've no idea why it shut down on me any help would be great.
Thanks
Rob

Is the vid card fan working now? If not, it probably overheated and reset the computer.

Can't say for certain what's going on with your drives, but have you checked the BIOS to be sure that everything is being detected properly? Can you boot Windows with just the RAID drives into Safe Mode? What happens when you connect only an optical drive and no hard drives?

Hi saphalline,
No the fan on the vid card is hanging limp! I'm off out to buy another shortly. At the build time I only bought a cheap one (was waiting for the PCI cards to come down in price).

No some of the drives show up missing. I also found that the PSU struggles on boot up. I changed the power cable to the 2 drives in raid for one of the spare leads that's when I managed to get into windows. I think there is also a power problem that might be what caused the overheat on the vid board unsure really.

I can only boot into windows with both optical drives, the floppy drive & the 2 raid drives but it says that the optical drives are the primary master & slave & it does not pick up the raid drives. When I check the raid set up part it shows they are working fine.

It just will not boot with all hard drives connected it comes up with NTLRDR IS MISSING it also then only recognises the 2 200 gig drives & not the 2 in raid.
I will fit a new PSU & vid card to see what happens. Of all days for it to go wrong it had to be Christmas day lol.

Thanks
Rob

Hi,
OK a new PSU & vid card things are running smooth with just the 2 Hard drives, a floppy & 2 optical drives.
The Bios does not detect the 2 hard drives but can open them!
The optical drives are being detected as the primary master & slave unsure why.

How do I get my system up & running to how it was? I've only played with the windows side of things before never the bios.
Any help would be great
Thanks
Rob
