Hi
I wanted to upgrade my memory(RAM) for my desktop.
I had no idea what type of memory my desktop b/c someone made the computer for me.
So I opened it up and i found 2 samsung RAM cards.
I looked them up at samsung.com and I found that they are pc800 RDRAM.
I have four slots of for RAM so I have two 128mb sticks right now. I would like to get two additional 128mb sticks for a total of 512mb. Do I have to get the EXACT same kind from Samsung or can I get another pc800 RDRAM memory stick by samsung? (they're both pc800 RDRAM but the one I wanna get is not exactly the same as the one as I have)

Thanks

Well in order to find out if any other sticks work than We're going to have to know what kind of mobo you have. So if you could just supply us with the model and brand we could assist you much easier.

Thanks

You cannot use any other type of RAM with RDRAM, and I would be surprised if the board also supported SD or DDR.

RDRAM is also expensive and needs to be installed in pairs, so to get more RAM you would have to buy two sticks the same as each other, though not neccesarily the same as those already installed.

Go ahead and get those other sticks of RDRAM if you want. They'll work fine, I'm sure. Just keep in mind that RDRAM is dead, and it's undesireable to the point of making me twitch. Go ahead and do this small upgrade now, but never again. RDRAM just ain't worth it.

Yes, RDRAM is alone all the time. If you have a mobo with RDRAM slots, that's all there is. Experiments with mixing RDRAM with another DRAM type all failed miserably.
