Hey
I am not going to tell you how to over-clock or wether it is bad or good.
I suggest going here (http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/articles/amd_oc_10-00/) for details on how to do it. What i am going to tell you is some advice.

Over-clocking started because people realized that the way CPUs were being manufactured was milking the consumer for every penny. In brief companies like Intel fabricate processors. They generally make one chip for many different ratings of CPUs. What this means is that when you buy a PIII 550 you are gerenally buying the same chip that was also
tested and rated to be sold as a PIII 750!

So why not just buy a 550 and try clocking it at 750 and save yourself sever hundered dollars? Because Intel hopes you dont know this. And once this became more widely known Intel came up with thier nifty idea of Multiplier Locking the chips so that they wont boot at different multiples.

Now days to get around this you must increse the entire BUS clock. Which could cause SERIOUS problems for other devices since they are not designed to run at non-standard speeds like 124MHz(or half that actually)

Soooo MB manufactures got wise and made nifty work arounds like IWill's motherboard that will run the memory bus overclocked but everything else at normal speed. Cool eh?

In short, over-clocking takes a lot of know-how and a little research and a lot of experience. Over-clockers have been known to know what stepping, country of origin and even what day of the week the CPU was made on to detrmine if the CPU has more over-clocke potential. Day of the week was a joke, by the way. But i am stressing that you need to really know what you are doing(and the potential harm you can do) before you undergo this procedure.

So, go do some research and let us know what you decide. Also feel free to ask more on the subject. Laters...

I fully agree. Unless you KNOW what you're doing, and are prepared to face the risks, don't try it.

The PC Guide has an excellent article Here (http://www.pcguide.com/opt/oc/index.htm)

Maximum PC (http://www.maximumpc.com/overclocking/) also has good info.

Knowplace Tune Up (http://www.knowplace.org/tuneup.html) has general optimization tips, and info on Overclocking.

Plenty more is available, a search on any good search engine should keep you busy for hours...

Soon as I come up with all the answers...they change the questions!!

Well thanks for all the advice i received from everyone. This website is so helpful to me and im glad i found it.This will now be the website i come to for info,questions/answers, and advice.

I decided not to overclock my processor seeing how complicated it is and how there is risk involved.Im content with my pc as it is, for im still pretty much a newbie with a pc so i still have alot to learn before doing stuff like overclocking. The websites with helpful tips on computer performance is great for me for now.

Thank you all..moegames
