Hey,

Nothing wrong with a Dell. Hewlett Packard would be my first choice though, only because my company exclusively buys HPs for Windows based applications. (We have some very picky programmers) However, we have had several Dells over the years and I have never heard any complaints.

A couple of things to keep in mind when buying a new computer is the ease of upgrading, ie. not proprietary such as Compaq, and tech support. I don't think there will be a problem with either by owning a Dell. Dells have been around for a long time. Your Dad could have done a lot worse. So in my opinion, you should consider it a worthwhile purchase.

Somebody may come along and flame my opinion, but I am just speaking from personal experience. The company I work for tries to use the best and most reliable computers on the market. Dell was one of them for a few years. Nuff said.

Cheers,

I agree with Bigblue66. We have about 40 Dell workstations and about 30 Dell laptops. Only one was dead on arrival. There Tech support is good and they have a support page that is customized for you computer(based on your service code). That contains all the drivers for your system and a "ask us" type of support search engine.

First rate stuff.
