would a overclocked GS in SLI give me more performance than 1 GTX 256mb?

I want to play in 1280x1000 with AA and all that stuff on

Welcome to the PC Guide Forums!! :D

Depends on how much the OC is, but I'd say they're about even. The 7800 GTX is a new GPU design and is much more efficient in some ways. Two 6800 GS's in SLI at say 485/1100 (core/RAM) would be about the same as a 7800 GTX at stock speeds.

In terms of the best use of money, however, I would probably suggest a nice OC'ed 7800 GT instead. If you have an SLI mobo, leave yourself room to upgrade. It's silly to buy two vid cards right away, unless those two vid cards are 7800 GTX's (top-of-the-line). The reason is that if you ever want to upgrade again, you'd have to chuck both 6800 GS's in order to do so. Doesn't make much sense.

ok, I was thinking of either 2 Gs' or 2 GTs, the reason im looking to go SLI is because I dont want to have to upgrade for at least another year and a half. Do you think 2 GTs would be a good investment?

Really? I love upgrading! :D It's so much fun!

Ah well...

Either one of those pairs would be a good investment. It all depends on your budget, or how much money you want to spend on just your vid cards. Two 7800 GT's would certainly be more powerful, but then again two 6800 GS's are about equivalent to a 7800 GTX which is more than powerful enough for your gaming requirements. I would think it would come down to the sheer cost of either pair.
