My computer has had alot of pop ups after my dad has used it. I think i found the file but i was unable to delete it.
the file is calledsurf side kick.

From reading the tutorial on hjt anything that starts with R3 is bad news so from that i think you should get BudFred to tell you what to fix

Please don't attempt to give partial fixes to malware issues... It can actually make it more difficult to do the complete fix...

Please start with an Ewido scan:

Please download, install, and update the NEW free version of Ewido trojan scanner (http://www.ewido.net/en/download/):

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".

When you run ewido for the first time, you may get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.

From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.

After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")

Click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run.

Check "Perform action with all infections".

When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again.


Please open and HJT log and put checks by these if they are still there:

I had trouble finding useful info about these items and they look suspicious... If you are not familiar with them, it would be a good idea to fix them as well...

Close all open windows except HJT and press Fix checked...

Find and delete these folders:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\o884lilq18qe.dll

Use Search to find and delete:

repairs302972988.dll

If you can't find any of them, set Windows to show all hidden files...

In Windows XP, on the taskbar, click Start > My Computer.
In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
On the View tab, uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types.
Uncheck Hide protected operating system files. Then, under the "Hidden files" folder, click Show hidden files and folders.
If you see a warning message, click Yes.
Click Apply.
Click OK.

Once done, reboot and post a fresh HJT log, the Ewido log and a report on how things are going...

It says that surfsidekick 3 and repairs302972988.dll are in use and can not be deleted. and as for C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Folders\ibm00001.exe and
C:\WINDOWS\system32\o884lilq18qe.dll they could not be located. I tired to go into safe mode to delete the files that were running but it says that they were still being used.
I also followed your directions to delete them.

Use KillBox to try and remove those files:

Then copy/paste this list into a Notepad file so that you can access it in Safe Mode... Boot to Safe Mode (tap F8 just before Windows starts loading and select Safe Mode)... Choose the "Delete on reboot" and "End Explorer Shell while Killing file" options... Copy/paste the entire list into the line for the file... It should be able to accept the whole list, but if it doesn't you will need to enter them one at a time... Do not click through to close it out and reboot until they have all been entered... Once they are all entered, click through to kill them...

the kill box won't delete them either i followed the instuctions you gave but this error came up "pendingfilenameoperations registry data has been removed by external process!"

If you don't already have it, download and install Ad-Aware SE and then update it... Download the Vx2 Add-on and run it... Then run a full scan with Ad-Aware SE and let it fix what it finds...

The message you got from KillBox usually means that the first file in the list was already gone... Run each one individually and see if they can be deleted...

After you finish all of this, reboot and post a fresh HJT log... Run Ewido and post that log again too...

Did you run the Vx2 Add-on from Ad-Aware SE??

If you did, run this:

You have the latest version of VX2. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

Here is my prevention speech to help avoid future infection:

This is a good time to set up protection against further
attacks. Read the article linked below about "How did I
get infected". You need an antivirus that is updated, a
good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a
spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads.
All of these have good free versions available... be very
cautious about any security software that advertises in
popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually
useless, but also often have malware in them....
