Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I hope someone can help me!

I ve a custom built PC, which i've had for about 3 years. A while ago it started doing this random thing which I have hunted for a solution high and low on the internet, and still don't know what the problem is.

I can be using the computer fine... and then all of a sudden it will power off - but the power light on the front on the case will flash on and off until I switch the machine off at the wall. I cannot restart the machine until I unplug the machine from the mains. It then seems that the longer I leave the PC until I turn it on again, the longer it takes to 'turn-off' next time I use it.

I don't think it's a software issue as I have reloaded the system using the recovery disk supplied by the builders (who have now gone out of business), and the problem still occurs.

Hope someone can shed some light on the problem!
Thanks in advance!
Mart

Hello. You are definately posting in the correct forum. You are probably having an overheating problem.

If your processor, power supply or other hardware is getting too hot then it can shut off your computer.

Did you recently move it to a less ventilated area? Make sure that your box can get air. Also check all fans. Try taking one or two of the side covers off of your box and seeing how long it lasts.

This overheating can be due to dust, lack of air flow or a broken fan along with some other things.

Next time your computer shuts off, open her up and carefully feel around to see if anything is abnormally hot, but be careful not to shock anything. Hope this helps!
