Happy New Year everyone.....

Just bought myself a New Belkin Wireless Router, very nice indeed just am having loads of trouble installing this thing!!!! Grrrr

I do everything it says, plug the cable modem in to the WAN port on the router via ethernet cable, then I plug another ethernet cable into port 1 and connect this to the main PC's ethernet port (On the motherboard).

Once this is all connected and powered up, the WAN light comes on, then the port 1 light comes on so all looks good, I then open up internet explorer and type in the IP address given and nothing happens, it just says page cannot be displayed. I haven't even tried it wirelessly yet, just trying to get a connection first!!!!

What am I doing wrong?? Thanks in advance

If you have Windowx XP, turn off the firewall....

ok, do I just go to network connections, right click on each connection and then go to advanced and turn the firewall off there? Or is it somewhere else????

thank you.....I will give it a try. I don't think I have a windows firewall turned on. Any other ideas if this doesn't work?

I have made sure the windows firewall is off, this doesn't seem to make a difference. I have now tried directly attaching the router from wan port to ethernet port (on motherboard) via and ethernet cable. I have then done an ipconfig and can see the default gateway is the same as what the book says the router should be. I then go to internet explorer, type in the ip and it just says page cannot be displayed.

Any ideas????

You need to configure the router.. in the instructions you have to type in the routers web page ip adress & then set up your isp settings in there .. if that fails phone up belkin they will help you configure it

unplug all networking cables from PC and turn it on. Go to Start/Run/ type CMD and hit enter now type IPconfig. What do you have for an IP and default gateway?

You should have a 169.254.x.x address. If you have anything else you need to change to "Obtain IP address automatically"
What a router handbook shows as the IP can be an IP that many devices use as the default IP. 192.168.1.1 alot of times. Different manufactures have different ones.

It could also be that you have changed the settings in the router or the router is bad. You can reset the router, make sure the PC is set up to "obtain IP address.. and then connect the PC to the router and reboot. Go to CMD again and ipconfig. You should see a 192.168.x.x address. The default gateway is the IP of the router. Type this IP in IE. If no start page comes up either something is blocking the HTTP connection or the router is bad.
