Is spy bot any good? And is it worth putting on your computer if you already have microsoft anti-spyware on?

Whats the scan like and how long on average does it take?
I heard from a few people that its not efficient and its unsafe. But all the programs ive been recommended on this forum have been great so i want to ask people here exactly what the spybot is.

One thing that bothers me though is that when i was reading the update section on it it says if a server its getting the updates off is down it will look around other places for updates.Does every scan not have 1 and 1 only server to get updates off?

And one last question What company made it?

Yes, Spybot is good and it is worthwhile to run a scan occasionally... Do not run the resident protection (TeaTimer) if you are already running the resident protection from MSAS... It is developed and maintained by one very dedicated individual... If you go to the Spybot site, you can find out about his work... I doubt that most of the heavily used security programs have more than one server to update and download the actual program...

Ok i was reading through the liscence agreement and it says that when sb s&d is looking for SW that if its trying to get it that it could have to cut deep into system files resulting in the computer possibly not running as well as before.Could someone tell me exactly what that means?Because it doesnt sound quite right to me

BudFred do you have SB on your computer?

I have used it for years... No problems with it...

I don't know what you are referring to from the license agreement... Maybe quote it here instead of interpreting it??

I think what you are referring to is Spybot warning you that if you remove certain spyware/adware it may cause the program to not work anymore, or any function that is associated with that particular program. I think the reason for this warning is for those that get infected, have someone clean off their machine, and wonder why they don't have a particular search bar on their browser anymore, or the bargain buddy link on their desktop is gone(all malware).

If that is what it is, don't worry about it. That is what it is supposed to do.

Spybot is a good tool. I have never had any problems with it and have been using it for several years now on several different machines. I also recommend it to others. And it's one of the tools I use to clean up infected computers.

Il copy and paste the liscence agreement over now in my next post.
But yes it did say that about infected programs not running properly etc but that ws only an e.g of what it meant but take a look see your selves and let me know what you all think.

II.b. Warranty
I tried my very best to make the code of Spybot-S&D as stable as possible, and I give you the warranty that I placed no code to cause intentional harm to your system.
However, removing the threats targeted by Spybot-S&D sometimes involves cutting deep into the system sometimes, and I cannot guarantee that your system will be running the same as before. For example, spyware hosts may stop working.
I can also give you no warranty that Spybot-S&D will remove every spy on your system, or that it will give you no false positives. For your own verification the location of the problem is shown with every entry, and if you have any questions remaining you can visit the support forum for more information.

II.c. Liability
Under no circumstances can you make me liable for any damage, however caused, including, but not limited to damage you might do to your system using Spybot-S&D.

I was just going to post to ask you to NOT post the entire EULA... The point is to quote the section you are referring to... We can all read the EULA, but you seem to be worrying about one specific comment...

Assuming that you are talking about IIb.... Any honest malware scanning/cleaning program will tell you the same thing... When you deal with some of this crap it is booby trapped and will mess up the user's system when it is removed... The people that produce the garbage want to make it as hard as possible for you to remove the garbage... The best way to avoid that risk is to either not use the internet at all or to armor up your computer and be very careful where you go so you are less likely to get infected.... Don't blame the program that tries to fix it after you get infected...

Here's another vote in support of Spybot. This program has served me well for years, and is consistently recommended by reputable sites and people I trust. This one is a safe bet, Ace Card Jones.

Yes, I think every site that has a list of recommended anti spyware/adware programs has Spybot listed. ;)
