IE freeze

I need to send my laptop off for service yet AGAIN, and my father has loaned me his identical machine while mine is out of commission. I started using it last night and everything was running smoothly - I copied over a backup from my laptop, installed some programs, etc. - no problems. This morning however I find that when I open IE, the system freezes and I can't do anything but turn it off and then turn it back on. Again, things will run OK (e-mail, IM) until I open IE. Sometimes I can visit a site and move around a bit before the freeze, but either way it locks up.

I rebooted again and ran a virus scan, found nothing. The latest IE patch was installed. I ran AdAware and found a few tracking cookies; wiped those. IE seems to be running OK on this last reboot - I did manage to download AdAware and HiJack this, and get to this forum after all, but I'm still concerned and don't want to give up my laptop until my dad's is running smooth. I appreciate any help.

No problems showing in your log... Have you tried an IE Repair?? Have you tried using FireFox instead??

I'm not familiar with IE repair...

I hate just switching to Firefox since it doesn't really solve the problem, but it may be my only recourse. At the very least it should make things more stable.

IE Repair:

Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

* From the Start menu, select Run.
* In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
* Select the OK button.
* Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
* Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Method 2: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

* From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
* Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
* Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
* In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
* In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
* Click the Search button.
* In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
* Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
* Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.
