Thinking its the sound card (original sound blaster 4 yr old)

what is a good replacement card?

Thank you all for the help in the past and future

Try updating the drivers before you shell out the bucks for a new card.

Hey Brian,

As for considering a new sound card, I recently purchased the SoundBlaster PCI512. The card rocks, I'm tellin ya. It has the EMU10K1 chip, the supposedly most advanced audio DSP technology for the PC.

It has support for four speakers. Also has Environmental Audio so you can set the sound effects for 3D gaming, or just for listening to music, such as concert hall effect, auditorium effect, hallway, living room, and the list goes on.

I have not been disappointed with its performance. Them's my two cents.

Cheers,
