It really helps if you say something about why you need help... It makes it easier to diagnose the problem...

Meanwhile...

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe (http://www.atribune.org/downloads/VundoFix.exe) to your desktop.
Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and tapping the F8 key just before Windows starts to load until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
You will first be presented with a warning.
It should look like this
VundoFix V2.15 by Atri
By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
Press enter to continue....

At this point press enter one time.
Next you will see:
Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
and then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QOMMN.DLL

Press Enter to continue with the fix.
Next you will see:
Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
staff then press enter:
At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\NMMOQ.*

Press Enter to continue with the fix.
The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items:R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D714A94F-123A-45CC-8F03-040BCAF82AD6} - C:\WINDOWS\DOWNLOADED PROGRAM FILES\SBCIE02A.DLL (file missing)
O2 - BHO: ATLDistrib Object - {2353FCBC-012D-487B-8BF3-865C0929FBEB} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QOMMN.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*QOMMN] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QOMMN.DLL,CreateProtectProc rerun

Close all other windows and press Fix checked... After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.

Then, please run this online virus scan: ActiveScan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm)

Copy the results of the ActiveScan and paste them here along with a new HiJackThis log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into this topic.

Just go ahead and try the HJT fixes... Try a HouseCall online scan as well... I will investigate and see if there is a different Vundo fix for Win9x.... Post a fresh HJT log...

Did you run the HJT scan before the online scan?? Did you do the HJT fixes?? The HouseCall scan log claims it killed the infection, but it is still showing in the log...

Okay, I am confused... If you ran HJT after the scan and the malware was still there, why is it gone now?? Did you do something else?? Are you still having any problems??

olderthandirt
01-13-2006, 06:26 PM
I had HJT fix the malware .The computer now has a runtime error
and asks if I want to debug,is my log clean.I also ran spy sweeper
in safe mode. The computer seems to be running ok it is only a 500
Mz pentium III so it seems slower to me than my 2.0Gz one but thats

I am guessing SpySweeper got it... it is a good program... Your log does look clean now...

Here is my prevention speech to help avoid future infection:

This is a good time to set up protection against further
attacks. Read the article linked below about "How did I
get infected". You need an antivirus that is updated, a
good firewall (a router firewall is not enough) and a
spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads.
All of these have good free versions available... be very
cautious about any security software that advertises in
popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually
useless, but also often have malware in them....
