Hi,
I'm using windows 98 (ugh, sorry, it's a work computer) and it seems to have one com port, com1, to which the modem is connected. However, the program I am using needs to have this modem on Com2 (in order to send electronic orders...long story). So! Can I trick the computer and rename the com1 port to com2, or is there a workaround, or....? I'm really unsure how to proceed.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Debbie

I am pretty sure that you can't name it Com2. Can you just use Com1? or just Com?

Looking at the [more comprehensive] manual for my older PC...
In the BIOS Setup at "Integrated Peripherals Setup Menu"...
It includes settings for...
"Onboard Serial Port 1" [settings available = COM1/3F8, COM3/3E8, COM4/2E8, Disabled]
"Onboard Serial Port 2" [settings available = COM2/2F8, COM3/3E8, COM4/2E8, Disabled]
