Hello,
I want to upgrade the HD on my eMachines 400i3 and the driveI have my eyes on is a ATA-100 drive, will this be backward compatable with ATA-33 like ATA-66 is?Also I would at some point like to add a ATA-100 controller to my computer but all my PCI slots are filled,is there any chance that anyone
makes a ISA controller for ATA-100?

Thanks,

Hey Bong,

I have yet to see an ISA Ultra DMA controller card. But then, I haven't looked very hard either.

I would think that the ISA bus would be too slow for something like that anyway.

Not sure about the backward compatibility. That's quite a stretch from 100 to 33.

Cheers,

I just bought an ATA100 card and the interface is identical to ata66/33...I'm almost positive the drive will work with an ata33 board, but obviously your speed will be limited to 33...

It's really not a big deal...the difference between ata33 and 66 is only a little and 66 to 100 will be even less, the transfer rate of 66 already exceeds the ability of the pci bus...
