I tried to connect to computer via the serial ports. There was a distance of approx 13 metres between the computers. This fails. And after disconnecting the cable were both the serial ports inactive. Windows reports me after trying to open a com port: Cannot open port.

I think that the two serial ports.
Because i blowed up the two serial on board ports in my computer want I to add an serial I/O card to my computer.I think that i blowed up this port because also after formatting my hard disk the ports were still not available.

Does anybody know how i can add this ISA serial I/O card to my computer.
( I am not a very experienced user).
I bought one ISA serial I/O card. With jumpers can you set the com port nr and the IRQ.
How can windows recognize that there is a new card on board?
Have I to disable the burned two onboard serial ports?

Set the onboard serial ports to "disabled" in the BIOS before plugging your ISA com port card in.

Windows will find the new com ports automatically (I think).

If not, you will have to run Add New Hardware from Control Panel - not an easy job without a mouse!
