Hi, I have a :
AMD K6-2 500MHz with 3D NOW
Soyo Mobo without AGP http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
64mb of SDRAM
onboard graphics
onboard sound

so any way, i'm a gamer an as you can see this is not realy a gamers pc.
so what I was thinking of doing is putting in a GeForce2 MX PCI card and adding 64mb of ram but i don't know if it's going to really make diferance
with my cpu being slow,I like to play games like quake3 arena.

Thanks

You should get an increase in frame rates in older games. But by not having an AGP slot you won't get the kind of frame rates reported on most web sites for the Geforce cards.(newer games are just to demanding for the PCI bus)

I would save my money and look into getting either a new motherboard with AGP support or a new computer. ( Not the latest and greatest, but with DDR memory coming out older computers and motherboards without DDR support should come down in price during the next 6 months.)

But hey if you can get a good deal and you just can't wait. I say go for it http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

okay thanks. but what kind of porformace do you think that i will get?
like 40-50 fps?

I hear what your saying about the new comp, I was thinking about upgrading
to a 700 duron and o/c to 1000mhz that's what I hear at least.
but I figure that if i get a mobo with out DDR it will get out of date pretty soon! and i'm just inpatient because pretty soon i should get some money to get a DDR mobo.

Thanks

That sounds about right. I remember reading about the PCI version of the Voodoo cards and I belive they did at least that good in Q3.I haven't seen any benchmarks on a PCI card in a long time so I can't be sure what your actual performance would be. ( In fact I'm not so sure there is a PCI version of any Geforce card) Here's a link to a review of the AGP version of the geforce2 MX.

Geforce2 MX (http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/00q2/000629/index.html)

If you got the cash for the DDR boards then I would go that route.
I only suggested buying an older computer as a way of keeping cost down.

Hey
Your 500MHz CPU has the least to do with your problem.
Dump that hunk-o-junk MB and get components.

Most all recent games recommend less than 700MHz CPUs.

Unfortunately you seem to be at a point where you are going to have to scrap what you can and buy an entire new system. The pains of integrated systems. Laters...

cool thanks.

The only thing is I don't have that much money.
so do you think that the Mobo I have now will work okay even though the graphics card is going to be PCI?

THANKS

Okay, I decided take your advice and go with a new mobo and Duron 700 and AGP GeForce2 MX.

but now I was wondering if you have any suggestions for a good cheap mobo?

Thanks
