I have posted notes in planning to purchase a lap top. And now have a different question to resolve a dilemma.
My wife and I are puchasing a lap top for our selves while our child remains using our other pc. We wish to remain using the same ISP on both pcs.
Can a telephone splitter or telephone hub resolve, where my wife and son can be on the ISP at the same time (different accounts names of course).

Dialup is your only option?

Suggest you use broadband/cable with a wireless router/modem. Ideally this requires the PC wired into the router with an ethernet cable from an ethernet card, and a wireless card either inside or plugged into the laptop. Other messages on this thread will help you make the conections.
This would use the same account name as it is the router that connects to the internet not the individual computers.

You have several options:
Dial-UP
Use ICS: The desktop PC connects to the modem and the laptop connects to the desktop via LAN. Very Slow.
Use two separate phone lines and each PC dials in to the ISP. You ISP must allow this ISPWEST does for example, while AOL does NOT.
Broad Band: This is cable or DSL and is the preferred method especially since you can take advantage of the wireless component of the notebook.

Get Broadband and a router. Sometimes the initial cost is offset by any telco charges you may use on dialup.
