Hey folks! This gameing stuff is out of my league. Just Formated honey's machine and sent to the bedroom for, little honey. Built new for honey! Went wireless for the daughter and myself, honey hard wired to the router. No good, to much interference for daughter's room, hard wired her too! Life is good, everyone has internet I'm done! NOT!!!

Now they want to play the same game together, from machine to machine? They have a game downloaded on mom's (not honey anymore) machine, they did the file share stuff, they see the same game, but don't interact with one another on that game.

As I said, I'm not much of a gamer, just a hardware guy! I hope i'm explaining myself correctly? I Know of people hooking machines together to play the same game with one another. This over a LAN, in home, no internet,I just can't seem to figure it out. :(

What do I do?

Both machines on XP, one is Home, and the other Pro, both with SP2.

I hope this is easier than it looks now? Beauness

What game is this, anyway? That may have a lot of bearing on how this all works.

What router do you have? Do you have the manual with it still? Have you logged into the router and configured it? Is it secure? Let us know so we can secure it if necessary.

With WinXP, this should be a piece of cake. On each computer, go to Start -> Control Panel, double-click on Network Connections, then double-click on the Local Area Connection. The status window will pop up. Click on the Support tab and make sure the Address Type is "Assigned by DHCP". If not, your router needs more configuring - refer to the manual and/or quick start poster. If it is...

Hold down the Windows key on the keyboard, then hit the Pause Break button. The System Properties window will pop up. Click on the Computer Name tab and make sure that both computers show the exact same name/value for Workgroup (including capitalization & punctuation). If not, click on the Change button and manually reset them to the same thing.

If the multiplayer still isn't working at this point, you can try setting up a LAN using the set-up wizard in XP. Go into the Control Panel, double-click on Network Setup Wizard and follow the instructions. If it's still a no-go, check any readme files that came with the game for further trouble-shooting tips.

This should get you started. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks saph! I've done all the configuring and all router settings, everything works great. The router is a wireless g with 4 ports for RJ-45. The game? Some simple Monopoly game they have found somewhere.

As it turns out, by the time I finished typing my questions here last night, they had it up and running, just like it should be, I guess. Just a matter of clicking and trying inside the program until they had what they wanted. I'm still curious, but I'll stay out of that loop for now!

Thanks again for the come back
