I was thinking of getting a new router. And although I don't have any wireless adapters on any of my computers right now, I am probably going to be getting a new laptop in the spring or early summer. Which of course will have wireless built in. So planning ahead I thought I would go ahead and get a wireless router.

My question is this. Can you disable the wireless signal? So I don't have to even worry about securing it until I actually need to use it. Or would/should I just setup the security anyway?

I currently have a Netgear Gb switch, and a Linksys router. The linksys is what I will be replacing. I like linksys but for some reason I (more importantly my daughter) can't play any Steam games online. Seems there is some issue that Steam has with my router. Hmm, I think I will start another thread for that one. ;)

Thanks in advance. :)

EDIT - Oops, I just realized I meant to put this in wireless forum and did not. Sorry.

This forum is fine.
Yes, you can turn off the wireless via the router web interface on most home routers.
