I have a Linksys BEFSR41 v2.1 router. It would seem Steam doesn't like it. I can usually connect to a server, but then lose connection within a very short time. I have been all over the Steam forums looking for a solution but have found none. I am not the only one that has this problem unfortunately. And Steam doesn't seem to give a crap about it as they have made no acknowledgment of it.
If I bypass the router I have no problems at all, so it is the router. Or to be correct Steam has a problem with the router. Shutting down the FW, AV or whatever does not make a difference. No problems playing any offline Steam games. Just online games like DOD, TFC etc..
I have even tried setting one of my computers as a DMZ. It did seem to help a little as it would try to reconnect most of the time instead of just dropping entirely.
I disabled Ident port 113 filter just to see if that was it, but no luck.
I have the latest firmware. I know there are plenty of people playing with Linksys routers, so I am guessing whatever the problem is, it is just something with my particular version.
Oh and this problem happens with three different computers and 2 different Steam accounts. Both accounts are in good standing. I have 5Mb/s cable internet connection. All computers have XP pro.
Anyone have any ideas about what it could be, or anything I could try?
