View Full Version : Processor downgraded from 2200 to 1500! Eh...??
I can scarcely believe what I'm seeing before me, but my Athlon 2200+ is now listed as a miserly 1500+.
The only things I've done to my rig recently are:-
1) Upgrade the mobo driver
2) Add a new stick of RAM
3) Loaded the 'high performance setting' in BIOS, but then had to remove the battery to reset the defaults when I couldnt boot up.
I've taken out the RAM stick, and rolled back the driver. Absolutely no good came of it....
!!!???
Houston, we most definitely have a major ******* problem!

Oh this one is easy. Nearly all Socket A mobo's default to the 200 FSB speed. Simply go into your BIOS and move it back up to 266, or 133, however your BIOS has it listed. Problem solved.

Take into consideration what kind of RAM you're running too. In the event it's PC100, it won't work with a 133/266 mhz FSB. You would need PC133. That's only in the event you're using archaic SDRAM like my pathetic self though. :)

If the chipset and RAM support it, you can run your FSB and RAM out-of-sync without a problem. In essense, that's what you're doing with any AthlonXP + SDRAM combo, because you've got a 200/266 FSB with RAM that only runs at 100/133. Too bad there wasn't dual-channel SDRAM back then! ;)

Fortunately my mobo also will support PC2100 DDR at 266mhz. I just don't do anything intensive enough to have seen the need yet.
Heh, before I came back I actually delved deeper into BIOS than I've ever been [which isn't saying much - technical noob that I am], and got things back up to speed after some tinkering.
All quiet on the western front again - Reinstate Defcon 5!
But if I hadn't managed it on my own, the helpful folk in this seat of knowledge would have set me straight, so "thank you".
