I purchased a athlon 1.2G without an operating system. When I first started it up, it asked for the win98 product code. I tried inputing the # that I have for my copy of win98 first addition. Of it didn't work. I then inserted a start up disk and my win98 cd and went through the set up. It installed fine and it worked pretty good. When I tried to open internet explorer it said not enough memory. I have 256m and 90% free. When I tried to open outlook express it told me that the "MSOE.DLL" would not load.

Do I need to unistall win98 2nd or should I do a internet update? Please help.

Sounds like you may have not gotten everything installed correctly. If I were you, I would try downloading the Internet Update first, then if that doesn't fix your problem, you might try re-installing Win98 just to make sure everything installed correctly. As for the missing MSOE.DLL, you could try searching for it on the Win98 CD and see if copying it to the hard drive in the appropriate directory (probably C:\Windows\System) to see if it fixes the problem. Best of luck.

If you have IE 5 or later try running the repair tool first, and see if it might find and fix the missing file problem.

Reinstalling is a last resort only, but keep in mind that it might be necessary in this case, but later on AFTER we have exhausted all other options.

Check back, others may have some good ideas too.

Hi

I have win98se, and did a search in my pc for this file "MSOE.DLL". I found it. It's an application(in OE) file ( just barely able to fit on one floppy)

so it is in win98se, and apparently needed, I havent found the file thru the web, but if u want it I can forward via email.

Hey Choop,

I think I would try to run the System File Checker. Go to Start/Programs/Accessories/SystemTools/SystemInformation/Tools/SystemFileChecker. (I think that path is right?)

Anyway, have your CD handy. It should tell you that the file you mentioned is missing and offer to extract and install it from the CD for you.

Cheers,

The DLL Archive (http://solo.abac.com/dllarchive/) also has it available for download. I checked the page a minute ago, and it says they added it recently, so it's posted right on the front page.
