Is there a way to find a downloadable upgrade?

Hey Choop,
Either do a search on 98SE upgrade, or try here: http://www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Good luck.

I've never heard of downloading the Win 98 SE upgrade ! Since it is over 200 mb (incl. drivers etc) it would take a lifetime. Belly up to the $89 and you will have a disk as well.

The only places I know of to download any version of Windows better NOT end up posted here. Warez/Crack links will be removed immediately.
This Topic (http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000027.html) in the Anouncements forum states Charles' position concerning software piracy, warez/crack sites should have been included, and Charles and I have discussed the issue by email, and agree, they are not to be posted here.
As Randy said, the $89 gets you the CD too. CSO (http://www.computersurplusoutlet.com) and Pricewatch (http://www.pricewatch.com) both often have windows 95 & 98 posted at reduced prices, other sites might as well. We bought a copy of 98 for my mother for $50 at CSO last year. I've seen it posted at sites on Pricewatch for $55-65. Sometimes online auctions will have it posted too, that might be worth checking out.

I think Reid posted something about an update version being available in a post on another topic. That would ae available at Microsofts on line store so check there. (I think though that you can mostly just get the cds there.) Most of theupdate stuff is on the update site in bits and pieces but there.

The $19.95 WIN98SE upgrade I got was apparently a limited-time offer that went out to registered Win98 users. If I do a fresh reload, I have to install Win98 first because it won't run from DOS.

Not quite right since 1948
Reid,
I thought that maybe it would be a limited time offer or something because I haven't seen it anywhere.
Choop,
I think that the only option you really have is get the disk to start because even if you found a download it would take forever. Most of the updatestuff is on the Windows Update (http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/)site.

Gosh, the thread is over 9 years old! We don't support illegal downloading, even if its an antiquated OS.

I have the windows 98SE. Upgraded to windows XP but still have the actual windows start up disk and recovery disk, etc. I loved 98SE! Hated to upgrade but had to. Good luck trying to purchase the actual CD. It might be easier to buy a comp off someone that has it. ;0) I have heard of someone going to a yard sale [or out of paper] and buying an old comp with the windows 98SE startup and recovery CD's included.
