RAID-1 Mirroring Question

My new system (AMD 3800 64 bit) has two 250GB drives set up in RAID-1 (mirroring) configuration. If one of the drives does fail, is some kind of indication provided by the system so I know about the problem?

Usually you will get a warning screen on the display during startup with a choice of continuing, etc.

Test this out by putting a boot floppy in the drive so that the boot processes wont write anything to the RAID (keeps the RAID with identical mirrors and should prevent any need to rebuild the array) and then remove the cable from one of the two RAID drives (simulating a failure).

It's far better to test out how your system reacts now than at a critical time.
