well, I hope I can get this all in proper order; probably not, but anyway..
I have a generic about 3 year old computer with a FIC VT501 baby AT socket seven motherboard, two 72 pin simm slots, tin leads (FPM, EDO), one 168 pin dimm slot, gold leads (SDRAM), both non parity; simms & dimm are 16MB each; am trying to upgrade but also save a buck, however I am just about to give up and go down to the local wiz and plunk down the exorbitant price
for new (old type) memory modules; can't make heads or tails out of anything which probably has a lot to do with my lack of computer savvy; my motherboard manual says that the simms are supposed to be singlesided which they are but I have in my possession from a prior upgrade a simm which has 8 chips on each side yet the specs for same motherboard downloaded from factory web site says that everything is supposed to be doublesided which goes along with the manuals statement that the dimm is supposed to be doublesided yet what's in there right now is singlesided;
follow me so far? I'd like to upgrade to a total of two 32 MB EDO simms and one 64MB SDRAM dimm; the only configurator with major memory peddlers
which still list my motherboard is Crucial's, however they only list a 32MB dimm and although they have another 64MB dimm I've been told by support staff that it won't work because I am supposed to have doublesided dimm and their's a singlesided yet, remember(?) what I have in the system is a singlesided dimm which works just fine; I've benn told to get everything 5 volt which Crucial list for their simm however their dimm is listed at 3.3 volt (both listings are for their detailed explanation for my motherboard); how important is this voltage business? can it be 5v for simm & 3.3v for dimm? I've tried quite a few other manufacturer's sites to get a configuration for my system but alas no luck; help anybody?

Check your motherboard manual carefully. Many boards of that era will support 5V SIMMs or 3.3V DIMMs, but not both in the machine at the same time.
