My laptop does nothing-help please

Hello, I attempted a Linux install, using Fedora core 4 on my laptop. 1 HD with only a Windows XP partition. At the partition part of the install I recieved different errors telling me it could not partition so I bailed out. Now the laptop does nothing at startup. I just get a black screen, no prompts, eroor messages, beeps, nothing. The unit powers up as indicated by the fan and power button light. The CD drive flashes as though it's looking for something, then nothing happens. I've tried booting up with the restore CD installed, and tried in safe mode but absolutley nothing happens here.

I'm at a loss as I can't even seem to get the thing to do a fresh install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

As per Toshiba tech support: "Power the laptop off, disconnect AC, remove battery for 15-20 seconds, replace battery, plug in AC, power up."
Works fine now. Never even thought about the battery.
