My new athlon computer has 2 usb root hubs and 2 vbm usb controllers. I tried removing one of the root hubs and the computer immediatly reinstalled it. It seems to me that I only need one. Also I'm getting an exclamation in the device manager for "processor support". It asks to update the driver, but I cannot find it. I have a chipset cd. Please help me.

Boot into safe mode(tapping the f8 key to get the startup menu and then 3. safe mode. You can also run msconfig and go to the advanced box and enable the start menu there.) Then goto device manager and remove both USB hubs and then reboot. You may also want to check for any other duplicate devices and delete them too rebooting after each set.

I've got a Soyo K7VTA-B (socket A) motherboard with the typical two USB connectors out back. It also has a header (set of pins) for an additional two USB ports.

Device Manager shows two USB controllers and root hubs, as you described. My BIOS gives me the option to disable the USB chip, but no option to just disable the "extra" USB ports.
