first use of this site---need some help, thank you::problem; 98se semi-crashed when trying to download easy share from kodak--it wiped out my norton anti-virus, and in trying to use norton system works, made things go from bad to near crash---when i go to my e-mail, i can read it, but when i try to delete the message, nothing happens, and when i go to compose--i click, but nothing happens--all of this started when i followed the directions from system-works, asking me to move my 'temp' files to norton protected recycle----as you can see, even whenm i returned the protected files to the 'temp' folder, minus six they said could not be returned????, the problem with making the clicked on functions still do not operate---other than a complete reformating of the hard disk, any suggestions--i'm using the new mashine next to the old one---most important, is that my travel pictures were able to be burned to disc, using my roxio 6 program---it's obvious that i know very little about computers, so if there is a sollution, i do indeed thank you all for your help. thanks again, larry

Welcome tohttp://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!

What you might want to try is scanreg /restore (yes, there is a space between the g and /) If you have a startup disk that can get you to the A: you type the command. You will be given 5 choices to successful boots...

I would personally suggest dumping the Norton stuff and use one of the freeware anti-virus programs such as AVG. Norton stuff is bloated...

AVG updates regularly...

i'll give this a try---now that i have a second computer next to my nemisis, i feel a lot more confident that, even if i mess up, i'm just a click away from a complete re-format---i was able to burn my travel pictures via roxio, so i have them on this computer, and also copied on the transfer discs---again, thank you---it is amazing that i now feel a lot more confident...thanks again, larry
