I have a computer that I am trying to fix. Windows 98. The original problem was trying to get the floppy drive to work. I couldn't get it to recognize it. We disconnected it and tried another one. It wouldn't work either. So we just decided to plug the old one back in and leave it be. After I plugged the original floppy back in and rebooted, it will only start in safe mode. It tries to start up but can't. It does give a message like it is checking the different drives. Then it says that the floppy failed. Something to that extent. That makes me think it is a problem with how it is recognizing the floppy. I made sure the cable's were secure. Still no luck. Can anyone please help me? This is my Mother-in-laws computer!! Save me!
Thanks
Lisa

What happens if you just disconnect the floppy data cable AND power cable?

I haven't tried that. I will try it this evening and see. If this doesn't work do you have anymore ideas?
Thanks

My suggestion go to the Bios Setup and see if it is enabled, since you getting floppy failed i think is enabled that means power cable or data cable are not conected rigth check conections, also if you conect the data cable wrong you will se the light allways on on the floppy, if that is the case all you have to do is turn the data cable arround , also make sure you conect the data cable to the last conection on the ribbon cable after the twisted conection. good luck
