I was using DUN. Now I have changed to cable modem (DOCSIS 1 Compatible) for the Internet which is through a network.
My problem is that how could my PC win98 detect this modem. I do not know?
Besides could one send a word document as fax with the help of this modem.
Needless to add here that I was using sending of word documents as fax through fax modem that I used all along for the Internet.

is it working??
keep sending your faxes the same way as before- thru your data/fax modem.
there may be a way to do this thru your cable modem, but it would most likely involve 3rd party software that would be expensive, so here on my dsl I just use my modem to send faxes. (regular modem)

My fax modem is working fine.
My cable modem is also working fine. But I am connected to the Internet allways through this modem. And the other fax-modem is not in use. But if I use to fax a document through my fax modem and send the fax by the third party software (supervoice 2.2 a free software) it does the job but the word document crashes and finally Ctrl+Alt+Del removes the window.
Before this the fax modem would work Ok when I did not possessthe cable modem.
By the way what is the third party software for sending a fax that could be used in tendon with the cable modem.

I do not know to what modem you are refering to. In cable modem (DOCSIS 1 Compatible) have we to load driver if it is connected in LAN.

Hello Veshno,
Is this cable modem connected to your machine or on another machine. You said it's on a network, so if its not directly connected to your machine then the drivers and detection are not an issue.
You are simply using internet connection sharing.
As for the fax documents crashing on you, here are a few questions:
Is it only Word docs that crash?
Have you tried anything else?
Does the doc get received?
What is involved in the crash? (system lockup? window lockup? error messages? fax terminated?...)
Are you certain this happened because of the new cable modem being connected?
There is InternetFax software out there, but it is rather pointless as you could just send the doc by E-mail.
I received a fax like this over the internet once from someone and had to download the program to view it. Sorry, can't remember the name now.
I think this would be a good idea if you were sending to someone with no internet connection and this software were to dialout from another location, but otherwise pointless.
Let us know and we can go from there http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
