Whats the performance diference between an AMD Athlon 1 Ghz and an AMD Thunderbird 1 Ghz? Is it simply the L2 cache on board?
Thanks.

Cpu Scorecard (http://www.cpuscorecard.com/) should have a pretty decent comparison.
AnandTech (http://www.anandtech.com/articlelist.html?t=101) has some pretty good articles concerning CPU's and the technical reasons for the differences in performance.
Trish's Escape From Hardware Hell (http://www.hardwarehell.com/cpu.htm) has a whole page of mostly CPU related links, lots of good reading.
From what I read so far it looks like the cache speed is the main difference...

As a result of the L2 cache being "on die" the Tbird runs about 9% faster than a plain Athalon (even tho the original Athalon has a larger L2 cache). Tom's Hardware is my favorite source for detailed analysis of CPU's and stuff: http://www.tomshardware.com/
