My friend is looking to buy a laptop within the next six months or so. This laptop needs to last him about four years, so he would like to get the top notch technology. Is there something coming out within this time frame that he should wait for so he can get it with his new computer?
Also, what are the names of some reputable laptop manufacturers? Gateway and Dell are the only two that I am fimiliar with, but I'm sure there are more out there. My brother bought a laptop from Quantex and recently began to have trouble with the DVD drive. Unfortunately, this company had gone out of business and he had to spend a lot more money than necessary to buy an external CD drive. Do you know of any companies that are secure enough and will be there long enough to provide support?
Thank you in advance for any replies you may post. Any help is very much appreciated.

Dell makes excellent laptops...the key is how much $ you want to spend...and as far as lasting 4 years, just make sure to get the extended warranties (although the longest they have may be 3 yrs)

There is NO doubt that the Sony Vaio is the sexiest laptop computer on the planet...but I wonder if it will hold up? You can order one direct from Sony for a mere $2,995 for the 750 mhz model!!
