Can any one tell me if its Possible to wipe a hard drive, that has windows XP Home installed, even though it has only got a recovery disc.

The problem is that the computer (Acer Aspire Laptop) is running very slowly, and has been for quite i wile, i have used the recovery disc, but is still running slow

.

I have checked for Virus's with AVG, checked for Spyware with Spybot and Ad-aware. But it is still running really slowly.

Thanks in advance.

See if these AV programs find anything:

If no luck, then run 'Hijack This', and post its findings here:

Yes, you can format and reinstall Windows using a recovery CD. First, make sure the CD-ROM drive is listed as a boot device ahead of the boot HD in BIOS. Then, restsrt with the CD inserted, press Enter at the Setup screen, and follow the instructions.

if you use the recovery disc (properly) you ARE wiping the hard drive clean. what are the specs. of your system? Perhaps they are lacking for xp? A lot of those restore discs load so much junk from the manufacturer. Try deleting anything not needed in the startup folder, search the 'net for services to disable, delete any unused software. That can help somewhat.
