Im new to this forum... I have a problem for some weeks now...
Last week I used A Registry cleaner from pctools.com

I cleaned my PC with it, now when I try open WMP it won't open nothing happens or it gives an error like "make a fault repport" and send this to microsoft...Im sorry maybe I'm translating it very wrong ( Im from Denmark)
time after time this keeps happening ...

I tried reinstalling WMP..but the problem still occurs... also other players are giving me an error and when I go to the folder of "my video's".I automatically get an error about the "fault repport"....I tried everything nothing works...

is there some "wonder program" whihc will help me out of this situation..I also scanned with Kaspersky antivirus and also I dont have a virus or a worm..

could someone please help me??? :)

uh oh...... smells like trouble, folks!

IMHO, registry cleaners are a pile of ****, they don't do anything that a nice fresh clean install will do for you.

Anyhow, back to the question... no, I don't think that there is a "wonder" tool! http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/confused.gif Once your registry has been modified (which is has) and if it hasn't been backed up (which is probably hasn't) then there's no way to change everything back. http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Copy your files to a CD (or DVD, if available), reinstall Windows XP (assuming you have the install disc...). Is your PC proprietary or self-assembled? If it was proprietary, the manufacturer gave you a reinstall disc (or it is stored on a hidden partition). Reinstall! http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Registry cleaners often create a backup before they take action. You might want to check the program and see if it is one of those that do create a backup and where they would store it...

You're right, Whyzman, I hadn't thought of that. Reinstalling is more fun anyways! http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

PS: have you always been a mod or did I just notice that now?

We usually look at reinstalling as a last resort. It's helpful if we can find the culprit rather than burying it under a reinstall. Unresolved problems, for some reason or another, seem to have a pernicious appetite bent on reappearing...

Not knowing the skill levels of new posters, we tend to err on the side of caution. Many folks are not saavy regarding things like partitioning their harddrives and storing valuable information onto separate partitions to avoid erasure during a reformat and reinstall...

There is one registry cleaner that is used and recommended by some of the regulars around here, including me. CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) is good for clearing out temp files and such as well. I have never had a problem with this registry cleaner and it makes backups before making changes. One thing I uncheck in the registry options is "old unused file extensions". I have a few programs that I uninstall but I still use some of the files so I need that file extension left in the registry so window knows what to do with that type of file.

CCleaner is the only registry cleaner that I have never had any problems with and the only one I would recommend.
