Problems ftping

Ok this is my first post so I'm not sure this is in the right section but here goes. I have a dell xps400 with a pentium 820 1gb ddr2 ram and it's running media center 2005. My problem is I can't ftp into anyting using explorer.(xbox,router or anything esle) It just says We can't find "......". I can ping all items however. Any help would be much appreciated.

...to the best place for computer help!! Not sure I understand exactly what problem you are having. Try posting exact full error message you receive, it will make it easier for the great people in here to help you. After you do, I am sure someone will be along shortly to help.

The xbox and the router may be pingable, but you can't ftp to them because neither runs a service on the ftp protocol. There is nothing to connect to. You should try connecting to an ftp server that you know works. If you can't do that, then we can troubleshoot further. IE has no problem with the ftp protocol, but you might need to enable passive ftp in the advanced settings, since you're behind a firewall. Try this link: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/

I looked in the advanced settings and enable passive ftp was already enabled. The xbox I was trying to ftp to is modded and has a built in ftp server as I have already used it before. I was trying to ftp into my router to change it's setting as I have done in the past only with a different computer. Thanks for the help
