which CPU ?

Can anyone help, I bought an MSI-6330 MOBO, socket A, its a variation from original, manufactured for gateway systems. Here is the board,,,,,http://www.gateway.com/support/techdocs/references/motherboard/0aavw/index.shtml
Its refered to as an MSI AMD athlon mother board.
Can I put a duron 800mhz onto this board ?
I went to the AMD webpage and looked up a list of MOBOs recommended with the duron 800 and they dont list the MSI 6330.
Whats the differences between an athlon socket A and a Duron socket A ?
The reason I want the duron is I have a nice deal pending on a new one.
I thought I could, but just wanted to double check before I proceed.

If both the Gateway and AMD websites say Athlon but no Duron, I would think it wouldn't be a good idea to try it.

I'm certainly no expert on AMD's and don't really know the actual differences, I'll leave that to some of the other folks who do know something about them. I think the main difference is the type and method of cache, but not sure about that at all. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone else will clear it up.

It does look similar an MSI K7T Pro-2A, which is a Duron/Athlon compatible board. Check MSI (http://www.msi.com.tw/) to compare. The Gateway may not have all the same features and overclock capability.
I bought my K7T from AllStarShop (http://allstarshop.com) (an excellent supplier) for $109.

I'm just gonna proceed as this board being a KT-7 pro-2A(with the variations for gateway). I got it for $39 plus shipping, unused at e-bay.
I'll deal with the gateway bios when I get there !
I'm clueless but diving in headfirst !!!!!!!
I did that 16 years ago, and my beautiful wife turned out allright !!!
